Scientific Glassblowing

The workshop produces hand-blown glassware and bespoke apparatus for chemistry research. Every piece is engineered in-house, from standard laboratory glassware through to one-off apparatus for demanding synthetic chemistry - Schlenk lines, reactor components, custom apparatus made to specification.

The workshop is also home to J Young®, GPE's own range of high-vacuum greaseless stopcocks and NMR valves. Designed and manufactured in-house, J Young® is distributed worldwide and used in chemistry laboratories throughout academia and industry.

Since 1962

GPE Scientific began in 1962 as Glass Precision Engineering, hand-blowing custom apparatus for British chemistry laboratories. The craft is unchanged six decades on: glass blown by hand, apparatus engineered to spec, an engineering heritage running through everything the business does.

The person who handles your enquiry and visits your laboratory trained as a scientist. The people blowing glass are craftsmen who have been doing it for decades.
